Values pt2...

This week I spoke about Values. Let me give you a quick summary….

We all have values. Some of us have different values, i.e. someone who doesn’t have kids isn’t going to value kids etc….

But, if you are a Christian, there is a place that we all start from. Jesus mentioned it in Mark 12:28-34 and you can find the same theme in Jude Jude 17-23.

Mark 12:28-34 - One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the discussion. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" Jesus replied, "The most important commandment is this: `Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.' The second is equally important: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' No other commandment is greater than these." The teacher of religious law replied, "Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other. And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbors as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law." Realizing this man's understanding, Jesus said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Basically, the Scripture says that we should value: God and others. This should be our starting point. What takes the place of spot # 3, 4 or 5, is up to you. But, it should honor God….

The Bible doesn’t only say that we should value, but we should examine our values to see how we are doing…

2 Corinthians 13:5 - Examine yourselves to see if your faith is really genuine. Test yourselves. If you cannot tell that Jesus Christ is among you, it means you have failed the test.

I hope you spend some time thinking about what is important in your life. We clutter our lives with so much junk, that we can surely benefit from “chunking” some of the junk!

I have a “value” worksheet on the E-group website. You can check it out! Let me know if you have any problems getting to it.

Let me leave you with this…..

If we don’t live our lives examining our values, we are leaving to chance: who we are, who we are becoming, and ultimately accomplishing our purpose.
